"South Korea and China are comrades who went through and overcame the hardships of the modern history together. I hope my visit to China will serve as a starting point to upgrade bilateral ties by another dimension based upon our comradely trust. As South Korea and China defeated the colonial imperialism, I hope we can overcome the current crisis of the North East Asia together."

Moon said a nuclear North Korea cannot be accepted under any circumstances and once again stressed dialogue with North Korea.

"It is not confrontation or showdown that we want with North Korea. I want to stress again that if North Korea makes the right choice, the international community will offer a bright future."

Following the summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping the previous day, he noted that Seoul and Beijing agree that war should never recur on the Korean Peninsula.

Moon said Seoul and Beijing share the view that strong sanctions and pressure are necessary to block Pyongyang from engaging in provocations.

While noting that a series of winter and summer Olympic games are set to take place in South Korea, Japan and China, Moon called for joint efforts to turn the 2018 PyeongChang Games into peace Olympics.
