UN Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman says he urged North Korea to resume talks with the South and to participate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics during his trip to Pyongyang last week.

Feltman told South Korean reporters in New York he suggested a resumption of communication channels between the two Koreas, including talks between military authorities, noting that small incidents may lead to serious clashes.

He said it's difficult to tell whether the North Koreans will respond positively to any of his suggestions and added that for the time being, he believes North Korea does not see denuclearization as a realistic objective.
