The North Korean soldier who sustained multiple gunshot wounds from a dramatic defection to the South across the Joint Security Area has been transferred to a military hospital.

The 24-year-old North Korean surnamed Oh was transferred from Ajou University Hospital in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, to the nearby Armed Forces Capital Hospital in Seongnam by a military chopper on Friday.

The soldier has recovered to the point that he can move around himself with some assistance.

Following his relocation to the military hospital, an investigation into the motive behind his defection is expected to begin in earnest.

During a rare defection through the JSA at the inter-Korean border on November 13th, the soldier was shot five times by fellow North Korean troops, taking bullets to the elbow, shoulder and stomach.
