China Urges Implementing New Sanctions But Also Dialogue

China has renewed its call for the North Korean nuclear issue to be resolved through dialogue and negotiations following the UN Security Council’s adoption of tougher sanctions on the regime.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Saturday the new resolution was adopted in response to North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile.
She said the resolution stepped up sanctions on the North but stressed they should not have an adverse effect on the North Korean people.
She said the resolution included a measure that sanctions should not impact ordinary economic activities and cooperation, the provision of food and humanitarian aid, and the activities of foreign diplomats stationed in North Korea.
The spokeswoman said the new resolution stresses peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, appeals to a peaceful, political and diplomatic resolution of the North Korea issue, and calls for the resumption of the six-party nuclear talks.
She said the resolution also urged related nations to take measures to ease tensions on the peninsula.
Hua said that China hopes for a peaceful solution to Korean Peninsula affairs and that concerned nations will execute the new sanctions.
