USA Today: 10 Ways Kim Jong-un Scared the World This Year

American newspaper USA Today carried a special report titled, “Ten ways North Korean leader Kim Jong-un freaked out the world in 2017."

The article said that for decades North Korea has thumbed its nose at the international community and brought the world to the brink of war but this year, tensions between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reached new highs.

The daily noted that both leaders can be impulsive and unpredictable at times.

It said that Kim Jong-un ended the year as he began it: by defying the world and continuing on a dangerous path.

It then listed ten ways Kim scared the world this year including the North's first missile test of 2017 just three weeks after Trump was sworn in, and the assassination of his half brother in Malaysia in February.

USA Today said that Kim also went on to kill more rivals in his government.

It cited the death of American captive Otto Warmbier, who was released in June after spending 17 months in North Korean prison.

The list also includes Kim's threat to launch a test missile toward Guam and the regime's first hydrogen bomb test in September.

The young leader's "extreme insults" against Trump, calling him a “mentally deranged U.S. dotard,” also made the list.

The paper noted that Trump responded with his own series of insults, including mocking Kim as “Little Rocket Man.”

The article also mentioned North Korea's shooting at defectors, including a soldier who survived being shot five times as he escaped across the demilitarized zone last month.
