Chinese FM Cites THAAD Agreement as Major Achievement This Year

China's top diplomat has said the agreement with South Korea to deal with the issue of Seoul's deployment of the THAAD antimissile defense system in a step by step manner was one of this year’s important diplomatic accomplishments.
In an interview Tuesday with the People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China will continue toward the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.
Minister Yi also said his country will continue its proposal of the so-called "double freeze" and "simultaneous progress" as solutions to resolving the North Korea crisis.
Double freeze refers to a freeze of North Korean provocations as well as joint military drills between Seoul and Washington. Beijing also seeks parallel progress in the Korean Peninsula denuclearization process alongside peace negotiations between North Korea and the U.S.
The minister said that China's relations with Japan were also improving and advancing.
