US Expert: N. Korea to Launch Geostationary Satellite Within Years

A U.S.-based astrophysicist says North Korea will be able to launch a geostationary satellite within years.
Jonathan McDowell at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics made the prediction in a telephone interview with the Voice of America(VOA) on Tuesday.
He said the satellites launched by the North so far are only low-orbit satellites, but the regime will be able to launch a geostationary satellite within several years.
Featuring an orbital altitude of 36-thousand kilometers, geostationary satellites orbit at the same speed as the rotation of the Earth. They are more efficient and durable than low-orbit satellites.
