China Restricts Steel, Oil Exports to N. Korea

China's Commerce Ministry and customs authority said Friday that steel exports to North Korea will be completely banned from Saturday.
Shipments of crude oil and oil products to the North will also be restricted.
The Commerce Ministry posted a document on its Web site related to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2397, and said that it's taking measures on a number of export items to North Korea to carry out UN sanctions.
The document shows a full embargo on shipments of steel, other metals, industrial machinery and transport vehicles to North Korea.
Crude oil supplies will also be limited in line with the UNSC resolution that has placed a cap on oil supplies to the North at no more than 525-thousand tons during the period of last month and December 2018.
Under UN sanctions, exports of refined oil products to the North must also not exceed 60-thousand tons for the whole of this year.
The Chinese Commerce Ministry said that shipments have already neared this limit and it will therefore temporarily suspend exports of refined oil goods to North Korea for this year.
