Two Koreas Discuss Delegation Makeup for Tuesday Meeting

South and North Korea will on Saturday discuss details of Tuesday's high-level meeting through their Panmunjeom liaison channel.

Seoul's Unification Ministry said the two sides held a phone call at 9:30 a.m. to initiate the day's business.

A ministry official said that from Saturday, the two sides will be discussing the composition of the delegation for the Tuesday meeting by document exchange, including via fax.

The official said that discussions on the delegation makeup could be concluded as early as Saturday.

South Korea is known to be considering a five-member team headed by Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon and including officials of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In this case, North Korea's chief delegate will likely be Ri Son-gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, the state agency in charge of inter-Korean affairs.

A Unification Ministry official said that whether a minister-level official will lead the talks will need to be discussed with North Korea.

Separately, the Unification Ministry is planning to hold a strategy meeting on Saturday chaired by Minister Cho to prepare for the inter-Korean dialogue, which will be the first government meeting between the two Koreas since December 2015.
