Two Koreas Discuss Details of High-level Talks via Border Hotline

South and North Korea are discussing details of Tuesday's high-level meeting through their Panmunjeom liaison channel.

Seoul's Unification Ministry said discussions are under way after the two sides held a phone call at 9:30 a.m. A ministry official said that the two sides are discussing the composition of the delegation for the Tuesday meeting by document exchange, including via fax.

The official said that discussions on the delegation makeup could be concluded as early as Saturday.

South Korea is known to have proposed a five-member team headed by Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon and including officials of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In this case, North Korea's chief delegate will likely be Ri Son-gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, the state agency in charge of inter-Korean affairs.

A Unification Ministry official said that whether a minister-level official will lead the talks will need to be discussed with North Korea.

Separately, the Unification Ministry is planning to hold a strategy meeting on Saturday chaired by Minister Cho to prepare for the inter-Korean dialogue, which will be the first government meeting between the two Koreas since December 2015.
