'IOC Chief, N. Korea's IOC Member to Discuss N. Korea's Olympic Participation'

International Olympic Committee(IOC) President Thomas Bach and North Korea's IOC representative Chang Ung will reportedly discuss this week Pyongyang's possible participation in the upcoming Winter Olympics in South Korea.

AFP quoted a source as saying that the discussions will be held in "the middle of the week" at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland between Bach and Chang.

On Saturday, Chang told reporters in Beijing that his country was "likely to participate" in the PyeongChang Winter Games.

Bach and Chang are expected to discuss sports events in which North Korea may participate using wild card options.

North Korea qualified for the winter games in the figure skating pairs event but missed the October 30th deadline to confirm whether it would send its team to Pyeongchang.

The IOC is encouraging Pyongyang to join the Olympics by providing wild card berths to North Korean athletes and offering to pay all of the North's expenses if it is willing to take part in the games.
