Unification Minister: Will Seek to Discuss Separated Families, Easing Military Tension

South Korea's Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon says that he will seek to discuss ways to ease military tensions and reunite separated families during Tuesday's high-level talks with North Korea.
Cho, South Korea's chief delegate for the inter-Korean talks, told reporters on Monday that the two sides will basically focus on the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, but the government will seek to raise the issue of families separated by the Korean War and ways to ease military tensions when discussing inter-Korean relations.
The minister, who will lead a five-member delegation to the talks, said that he will faithfully engage in the talks, which are being held at a very critical time and drawing keen attention from home and abroad.
Cho also said that the delegation included both the unification minister and the vice unification minister, as there will be a need to continue working-level talks after Tuesday's high-level dialogue.
Regarding North Korea's member of the International Olympic Committee, Chang Un's comment hinting at the North's possible participation in the figure skating pairs event, the minister said that Seoul will listen to what North Korea will say and will make efforts to enable the North to take part in the games.
