Unification Ministry: Inter-Korean Talks Will Focus on Matters of Mutual Interest

The Unification Ministry says the high-level inter-Korean talks set for Tuesday will focus on preparations for the North's participation in the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.
Ministry spokesman Baik Tae-hyun said Monday that the upcoming discussions will also center on matters of mutual interest in a bid to improve cross-border ties, especially calls that the South made to the North last July.
On July 17th of last year, Seoul proposed holding inter-Korean military talks to discuss ways to remove risks for accidental clashes and to halt hostile actions near the Military Demarcation Line. Seoul also proposed to hold inter-Korean Red Cross talks to discuss holding South-North family reunions.
When asked if Tuesday's talks will touch on North Korea's nuclear crisis, Baik said it would be inappropriate for him to make comments based on presuppositions.
The spokesman said arrangements for the dialogue were devised through consultations among related government agencies and finalized after discussions at the National Security Council. Baik said the plans were briefed to President Moon Jae-in by the unification minister.
