Seoul, Tokyo Vow Efforts for Peace Momentum to Lead to Resolving Nuke Issue

The top nuclear envoys of South Korea and Japan held talks in Seoul on Monday. They agreed to strengthen diplomatic efforts so that the "peace momentum" taking place on the Korean Peninsula can lead to a peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue.
Seoul's Foreign Ministry said that Lee Do-hoon, special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs held talks with his Japanese counterpart Kenji Kanasugi who is director-general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau.
In a press release, the ministry said the two sides agreed to maintain close communication and coordination and stably manage the Korean Peninsula situation. They also discussed ways to bring North Korea to the dialogue table for meaningful talks.
Seoul and Tokyo also shared assessments regarding developments taking place on the peninsula since the New Year’s message issued by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The two sides are also believed to have discussed strengthening diplomatic efforts to improve inter-Korean relations and peacefully resolve the nuclear issue as well as ways to faithfully implement UN Security Council sanctions on Pyongyang.
