N. Korea to Send Orchestra to S. Korea during PyeongChang Olympics

North Korea says it will send an orchestra of around 140 members to South Korea during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
The plan is part of a five-point inter-Korean agreement made during working-level meetings on Monday intended to discuss the details of Pyongyang’s proposal to send an art troupe to the PyeongChang Games to be hosted in the South next month.
According to Seoul’s Unification Ministry, the two Koreas also agreed the North Korean art troupe will perform in the capital Seoul and Gangneung, another host city of the Olympics.
The two sides said they would smoothly handle potential issues through discussions, which could arise regarding the details of the North Koreans’ performances in the South, including venues and condition of the stages as well as necessary equipment and facilities.
The North plans to dispatch a group of officials in advance to help arrange the visit by the North Korean troupe.
For its part, South Korea said it would provide safety and amenities for the North Korean performers as much as possible.
The two Koreas also agreed to continuously discuss other related issues by exchanging telephone messages through their liaison offices at the truce village of Panmunjeom.
The working-level talks were attended by a four-member delegation each from South and North Korea. Director of the culture and arts policy office at the Culture Ministry, Lee Woo-sung, led the South Korean delegation while the North Korean delegation was headed by director of the performing arts bureau at the Culture Ministry, Kwon Hyok-bong.
