N. Korea Requests Use of Land Route for its Art Troupe

North Korea has requested the use of a land route to cross the border when its art troupe visits South Korea for the upcoming PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

South Korea's chief delegate Lee Woo-sung said in a news briefing on Monday after working-level inter-Korean talks that the North requested using a land route via the Panmunjeomn truce village.

Lee said South Korea proposed that the North Korean performers take the KTX train for security reasons when traveling between Seoul and Gangneung where they will hold concerts.

The Seoul government plans to make final decisions on the use of the land route across the border after discussions with the United Nations Command.

A Unification Ministry official said that the North Korean art troupe will likely visit South Korea before the opening ceremony of the Olympics, adding a detailed schedule will be discussed at working-level talks on Wednesday.

North Korea agreed Monday to send a 140-member orchestra to South Korea during the Winter Olympics and hold concerts in Seoul and Gangneung, near Pyeongchang.
