N. Korea to Send 230 Cheerleaders to Olympics

North Korea plans to send 230 cheerleaders to the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games next month.

South Korea's Unification Ministry said the North revealed the plan during inter-Korean working-level talks on arranging the North's participation in the games held Wednesday at the truce village of Panmunjeom.

The ministry said that the two sides discussed the size of the North's delegation to the Olympics, how the delegation will get to PyeongChang as well as the idea of the two Koreas making a joint entrance at the games' opening ceremony. The meeting also touched on the issue of forming a joint women's ice hockey team and organizing various joint cultural events.

According to the ministry, North Korea suggested that its delegation of athletes, cheerleaders, taekwondo performers and reporters cross over to the South via an overland route.

The two Koreas also reaffirmed their stance that they would strive to turn the Olympics into a festival of peace and reconciliation.
