Top Office: No Need for Moon to Intervene in Ex-Pres. Lee's Probe

The presidential office says it is President Moon Jae-in’s stance that the top office has no need and will not intervene in prosecutors’ investigation of former President Lee Myung-bak.

A senior presidential official told reporters on Thursday that it is up to the prosecution to review Lee’s case and reach a conclusion.

The official also downplayed remarks made the previous day by Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon who hinted that a South Korea-U.S. summit could take place between an inter-Korean summit and a U.S.-North Korea summit.

The official said nothing has been decided and stressed that the prime minister was only making an assumption.

On the lack of an official announcement from North Korea on the envisioned inter-Korean summit, the official said that past cases show that the North began to release related reports after a date was set for such meetings.
