Seoul to Propose High-Level Inter-Korean Meeting Late March

The presidential office says Seoul will propose holding a high-level meeting with Pyongyang late this month to help arrange the inter-Korean summit.

Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok said in a media briefing on Friday that the decision to make the proposal was made during the first full session of the preparatory committee for the inter-Korean summit earlier in the day.

The committee also decided to push for performances in Pyongyang by South Korea’s art troupe and taekwondo demonstration team early next month as was agreed between the South Korean presidential envoys and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un early last week.

The committee also decided to appoint 30 to 40 local experts as its advisers as part of the efforts to collect various public opinions regarding the inter-Korean summit.

Im said during the Friday meeting, the committee affirmed that the summit should be momentum to bring fundamental peace to the Korean Peninsula. He said the committee has decided to focus on the agendas regarding denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, easing military tensions between the two Koreas and development of inter-Korean ties.
