S. Korea's Top Office Welcomes N. Korea-China Summit

South Korea's presidential office has welcomed the North Korea-China summit held earlier this week in Beijing, saying it will help bring about peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom revealed in a written statement Thursday that Seoul welcomes the meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

He said it was greatly significant that Kim expressed commitment to denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula as well as his willingness to hold summits with South Korea and the United States during his meeting with Xi.

The spokesman said China's participation in peace talks regarding the peninsula, which came about through the latest summit, will likely contribute to stabilizing the situation in Korea.

The spokesman said Seoul hopes that upcoming inter-Korean and U.S.-North Korea summits could provide a clear turning point for establishing permanent denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
