China Welcomes Two Koreas Setting Date for Summit

China says it welcomes Seoul and Pyongyang setting a date for a bilateral summit next month, expressing support for more inter-Korean communication.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang said during a regular media briefing on Thursday that China agrees with current efforts made by both South and North Korea.
He said that as a close neighbor, China supports the talks between the two Koreas and their efforts for mutual reconciliation and cooperation.
Lu added that inter-Korean talks serve the interests of both nations and will contribute to easing geopolitical tensions on the Korean Peninsula and fostering regional peace and stability.
He said there has been “active change” in the situation on the Korean Peninsula and dialogue has reemerged as a major trend in the region.
The two Koreas agreed during high-level talks earlier in the day to hold the inter-Korean summit on April 27th.
