North Korean media outlets have reported on leader Kim Jong-un’s surprise attendance at a South Korean concert in Pyongyang on Sunday.
The Korean Central Television(KCTV) on Monday aired footage showing Kim visiting the East Pyongyang Grand Theater on Sunday evening to watch the concert and encourage the performers.
KCTV said during the two-hour show put on before an audience of about 15-hundred, including North Korean residents, Kim was accompanied by his wife Ri Sol-ju and his sister Kim Yo-jong as well as other top North Korean officials such as the country’s nominal head of state Kim Yong-nam.
Also in attendance were Choe Hwi, chairman of the North's National Sports Guidance Committee, Ri Son-gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland and North Korea's Culture Minister Pak Chun-nam.
The broadcaster quoted Kim as saying that he was moved to see North Koreans deepen their understanding of South Korean popular culture and sincerely cheer for the performances.
Kim also said that South Korean concert in Pyongyang brought a spring of peace for all people from both Koreas.
Kim was also quoted as saying if the two Koreas maintain and continuously foster a good mood between them, Koreans will greet a future where there are only genial springs with budding sprouts and blossoming flowers, and affluent autumns with ripe grains and fruits.
