'Sweden, Mongolia Offer Venue for N. Korea-US Summit'

A Japanese daily reports that the governments of Mongolia and Sweden have proposed their capitals as a possible venue for the summit meeting scheduled between North Korea and the United States next month.

Citing a source familiar with Washington-Pyongyang relations, the Asahi Shimbun daily said Saturday that the two countries have made the proposal to North Korea and the U.S.

The paper said the North and the U.S. appear not to have responded.

The source told the newspaper that "nothing is yet decided" regarding the venue of the summit.

Sweden has an embassy in Pyongyang and has conducted consular interviews for American detainees held in the North.

Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström and North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho held talks in Sweden last month.

As for Mongolia, the Asahi Shimbun said it is the only country in Northeast Asia that has not taken part in the six-party dialogue on North Korea's nuclear issue, and has requested to be involved in the North Korea concern in the past.
