'Gov't Working to Declare End of War and Establish Permanent Peace'

The Unification Ministry says the government is working to declare the end of the Korean War and bring lasting peace on the peninsula.

A ministry spokesperson made the remark Wednesday when fielding a question related to President Donald Trump's comment, that the two Koreas have his blessing to end the war.

The spokesperson added that ending the war, or replacing the armistice with a peace treaty, had been agreed upon in 2007 in the October Fourth Declaration between the two Koreas, and related countries' leaders had agreed to collaborate.

When asked whether the matter will be brought up during the inter-Korean summit set for next week, the spokesman said he is restricted from making a specific comment.
