S. Korea, US Security Advisers Discuss Peace Treaty on Korean Peninsula

South Korea’s presidential security adviser says that he discussed with his U.S. counterpart measures to build a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula and ease North Korea’s security concerns in the process of its denuclearization.
In a media briefing on Wednesday, National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong disclosed details of his talks with new U.S. national security adviser John Bolton held in the U.S. last week.
Chung said that during the meeting, Bolton made it clear that he will fulfill his role as an “honest broker” and help U.S. President Donald Trump successfully accomplish his will for peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Chung said he and Bolton had in-depth discussions on how to bring peace to the Korean Peninsula, including banning hostile activities and eventually building a permanent peace regime in the region.
He said they also discussed how to ease Pyongyang’s concerns over its security and guarantee a bright future for the regime if it makes the right choices.
He said the two also shared opinions on the possibility of holding a South Korea-U.S. summit and a trilateral summit involving the two Koreas and the U.S. to help achieve their goals.
