U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that Central Intelligence Agency Director Mike Pompeo made a secret trip to North Korea to meet with the regime's leader Kim Jong-un.

Trump said on Wednesday from his Florida resort that his secretary of state-designate recently had a great meeting with Kim, adding Pompeo and Kim got along really well. 

Trump has nominated Pompeo for secretary of state and predicted he will go down in history "as one of the great secretaries of state."

Trump tweeted earlier on Wednesday that "Mike Pompeo met with Kim Jong-un in North Korea last week," adding "meeting went very smoothly and a good relationship was formed." 

Trump said the meeting took place last week but the Washington Post reported earlier that Pompeo visited over Easter weekend, which ran from March 31st and April first.
