N. Korea's Ruling Party to Convene Plenary Session for Key Decisions
North Korea will hold a plenary session of its ruling Workers' Party of Korea(WPK) on Friday to decide key policy issues ahead of its historic summits with South Korea and the U.S.
The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported on Thursday that the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee decided to convene the third plenary meeting of the seventh WPK Central Committee to discuss and decide policy issues in line with the demand of the important historic period.
Speculation is being raised that the North could provide a new policy direction regarding its nuclear program and relations with the U.S. as the meeting will be held just a week prior to the inter-Korean summit. The potential summit with Washington is set for late May or early June.
Last Monday, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made his planned summit talks with South Korea and the U.S. official by discussing them at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the party's Central Committee.
Discussions and decisions about the party’s key policy issues and personnel matters usually take place at plenary sessions of the party’s Central Committee.
