China Expresses Support for Discussions on Formally Ending Korean War

China has expressed support for the two Koreas discussing a plan to declare an official end to the Korean War, saying it hopes to play an active role in bringing peace to the Korean Peninsula.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying relayed Beijing’s stance in a regular media briefing on Thursday in response to the disclosure by Seoul’s Unification Ministry a day earlier that it's working to declare the end of the Korean War.
Hua said China thinks the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and establishing a peaceful regime in the region should be pursued simultaneously, noting it's an effective way of solving the current issues on the Korean Peninsula.
The Korean War ended in an armistice in 1953, not a peace treaty, leaving the two Koreas still technically at war.
