N. Korean Official Visits Russia to Discuss N. Korean Workers

A senior North Korean official has visited Russia to discuss ways to expand economic cooperation between the two nations and the fate of North Korean workers in Russia.

According to the government of the Russian Far Eastern Primorsky Territory, the North Korean Vice Minister for External Economic Relations, Ri Kwang-gun, held a meeting with the region's acting governor Andrei Tarasenko on Saturday.

In the meeting, Tarasenko reportedly produced ways to ensure North Korean workers in the region will continue to work, although details of the ways were not disclosed.

The North Korean vice minister reportedly expressed gratitude for the regional government's efforts to enable North Korean workers to remain and work in the region.

Russia announced that it would repatriate all North Korean workers by the end of 2019 in line with the United Nations sanctions adopted in September last year. But North Korea is reportedly asking Moscow to produce ways to extend the period of stay for North Korean workers there.
