China, Russia Agree to Support Developments on Korean Peninsula

The top diplomats of China and Russia have agreed to fully support the recent positive developments on the Korean Peninsula.

According to Russia's TASS news agency, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov held talks in Beijing on Monday.

After the talks, Lavrov reportedly said during a joint news conference that many of the positive developments are in line with a joint Russian-Chinese road map for settling the crisis over North Korea's weapons program.

The first step of the road map calls for North Korea to suspend nuclear and missile tests and vow nonproliferation in return for South Korea and the U.S. reducing or suspending joint military drills.

For the second step, the plan proposes the two Koreas and the U.S. normalize their relations through direct talks and discuss denuclearization and security in Northeast Asia through multilateral talks.
