Kim Jong-un Visits Chinese Embassy and Offers Condolences over Deadly Bus Crash

In another sign of thawing relations between North Korea and China, leader Kim Jong-un made his first reported visit to the Chinese embassy in Pyongyang to convey his condolences for the death of Chinese tourists in his country.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency said Tuesday that Kim visited the embassy at 6:30 a.m. Monday to offer his condolences.

The report said Kim conveyed deep consolation to Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and the ruling camp as well as the bereaved families.

Former leader Kim Jong-il had visited the Chinese embassy on several occasions but Kim Jong-un had not made the visit amid chilly relations with Beijing.

On Sunday, a tour bus flipped over in North Hwanghae Province, killing 32 Chinese and four North Korean guides who were on board.
