Abe: US, Japan Want N. Korea to Dismantle Chemical Weapons

A Japanese daily reports that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said he and U.S. President Donald Trump saw eye to eye on urging North Korea to dismantle biological and chemical weapons as well as nuclear weapons during their recent summit.
The Yomiuri Shimbun said Tuesday that Abe made the remark during a meeting with lawmakers from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party on Monday.
He said that North Korea possesses not only nuclear but also biochemical weapons such as sarin gas.
Abe said that President Trump is completely on the same page with Japan's basic stance on demanding Pyongyang to dismantle those weapons as well.
Regarding the recent military action taken by the U.S., Britain and France against Syria over the country's alleged use of chemical weapons, the prime minister said the threat posed by weapons of mass destruction is also on the rise in East Asia.
The Yomiuri report said that North Korea is known to possess large amounts of biochemical weapons such as sarin gas, anthrax and the VX nerve agent.
It said that Trump is expected to raise the issue during summit talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and request the weapons be dismantled.
