"Denuclearization Among Likely Major Agendas of Inter-Korean Summit"

News2018-04-24

Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon says denuclearization and peace of the Korean Peninsula as well as inter-Korean relations will likely be among the main agendas of the upcoming inter-Korean summit.

In a meeting with reporters at the government complex in Seoul on Tuesday, Cho said that South and North Korea have yet to finalize the agendas of Friday’s historic summit. However, he said that there is no difference in opinion that they will focus their discussions on those issues during the summit.

An official of the ministry echoed the minister’s remark, saying it would be unrealistic to expect they can build permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula without progress on denuclearization.

The official said the agendas will be fine-tuned in a way that will make sense to both the South Korean public and the international community.

Regarding the North’s recent announcement that it will discard its nuclear test site and suspend further nuclear and missile tests, the Seoul official said the government sees it as a show of Pyongyang's will to denuclearize and negotiate with that goal.
