S. Korea Conducts Rehearsal for Inter-Korean Summit

South Korean officials held a rehearsal on Tuesday for the upcoming inter-Korean summit.

The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae said the first rehearsal was held for about two hours from 2:40 p.m. at the summit’s venue, the Peace House on the southern side of the truce village of Panmunjeom.

Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok, who heads the preparation committee for the summit, presided over the rehearsal which was also attended by senior committee officials dealing with the summit’s agendas, inter-Korean communications and administrative assistance.

According to the top office, the rehearsal took every issue into account, including how the two leaders will move around at Friday’s event and how tables and chairs will be arranged.

The preparation committee also practiced real-time management of the summit through the two situation rooms set up at the Freedom House at Panmunjeom and the main press center in Goyang City, northwest of Seoul.

On Wednesday, South and North Korea will hold a joint rehearsal, for which a North Korean delegation led by Kim Chang-son, an official from the State Affairs Commission, will join the South Korean officials.

The joint rehearsal will be held behind closed doors. A Seoul official said the two Koreas will not deploy stand-ins for the two leaders during the rehearsal and their seats will be left vacant.

On the eve of the summit on Thursday, South Korea will hold a final rehearsal involving six officials who will accompany President Moon at the summit.
