Moon Likely to Propose Setting up Permanent Liaison Office during Summit

South Korean President Moon Jae-in will reportedly propose setting up a permanent inter-Korean liaison office during his planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Friday.
A presidential official said on Wednesday that it is possible the two leaders will discuss the matter during the summit.
If the idea is realized, officials from the two Koreas will work together at the office, as they did when operating a joint economic cooperation office at the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex from 2005 to 2010.
A senior presidential official said that the permanent liaison office will be a good thing for easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula, adding it will likely be located at the truce village of Panmunjeom, rather than Seoul or Pyongyang.
During Friday’s summit, President Moon is also expected to discuss ways to hold inter-Korean summit talks on a regular basis.
