Inter-Korean Summit to Begin With Leaders Meeting at MDL

Anchor: The historic inter-Korean summit will begin on Friday morning at 9:30 with President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un meeting at the truce village of Panmunjeom. With one day left until the meeting, Moon’s chief of staff revealed details of what the summit will involve.

Report: Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok announced on Thursday that the leaders of the two Koreas will hold their first historic encounter at the truce village of Panmunjeom at 9:30 a.m. Friday before holding two rounds of summits.
Im, who heads the preparatory committee for the summit, said in a news briefing that Kim Jong-un will cross the Military Demarcation Line and will be greeted by Moon in front of the conference room of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission.
From there, the two leaders will walk to the site of the welcoming ceremony surrounded by a South Korean military honor guard.
The welcoming ceremony which will take place between the Freedom House and the Peace House at around 9:40 a.m. will include a “review of troops” of the Army, Navy and Air Force. The ceremony will end with the leaders exchanging greetings with each other’s entourages.
The two leaders will then head to the Peace House where Kim will sign the guest book in the lobby on the first floor and pose for a photo with Moon.
Moon and Kim will then hold a summit from 10:30 a.m. on the second floor of the Peace House. After the morning summit, the two leaders will have lunch separately before meeting in the afternoon and planting a pine tree together in hopes of peace and prosperity. They will then take a stroll on a footbridge before engaging in another summit in the afternoon.
Following the afternoon summit, the two leaders are set to sign and unveil a joint statement.
From 6:30 p.m., a welcoming dinner will be held on the third floor of the Peace House. After dinner, Moon will host a send-off ceremony for Kim which will include the screening of a video about the Peace House under the theme “unified spring.”
