Gov't's Efforts to Form Unified Team at Asian Games Under Way
The South Korean government is boosting efforts to create the first unified Korean team in the history of the Asian Games.
Since early this year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been working to field a unified Korean team for the Jakarta Asian Games to be held in August to build on the inter-Korean reconciliation fostered by the joint women’s ice hockey team at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in February.
According to the ministry, it recently asked local sports governing bodies what they think of the plan. Six associations, including the Korea Basketball Association, responded positively, saying they are willing to join a unified team if it's created.
