Pres. Moon Jae-in Arrives at Panmunjeom for Inter-Korean Summit

President Moon Jae-in arrived at the border truce village of Panmunjeom at around 9:01 a.m. for a historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Their encounter is set for 9:30 a.m.

Moon left the presidential office at around 8:06 a.m. amid cheering citizens waving Korean flags lined up to witness his departure.

He briefly got out of his car to shake hands with citizens shouting words of support. Wearing a blue tie, he said thank you.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) reported around 6:30 a.m. that Kim left Pyongyang early Friday for the meeting.

The KCNA said the two leaders will have candid discussions on diverse issues to improve inter-Korean relations and achieve peace, prosperity and the reunification of the Korean Peninsula.

Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok announced on Thursday that Kim will cross the Military Demarcation Line into the South and will be greeted by Moon in front of the conference room of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission.

From there, the two leaders will walk to the site of the welcoming ceremony surrounded by a South Korean military honor guard and then head to the Peace House.

Moon and Kim are set to begin their summit at 10:30 a.m.
