U.S. Hopeful Inter-Korean Summit Will Lead to Peace on Peninsula

The U.S. has expressed hope that the inter-Korean summit will lead to peace on the Korean Peninsula.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement on Thursday that the U.S wishes the Korean people well and is hopeful that the talks will help bring about peace and prosperity in the region.

Sanders added that the U.S is looking forward to continuing “robust discussions” with South Korea to prepare for a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, which is set for the end of May or early June. She added that the U.S. appreciates the allies' close cooperation.

The statement was released shortly after Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in met at the border truce village of Panmunjeom ahead of their historic summit.
