S. Korean Firms with Operations in Gaeseong Complex to Prepare for Resumption of Operations

The head of an association of South Korean firms that operated in the Gaeseong Industrial Complex says the association will set up a task force after the inter-Korean summit to prepare for the possible resumption of operations.
Shin Han-yong made the remark to reporters on Friday with regard to the summit currently under way at the truce village of Panmunjeom.
Shin said he believes the joint venture’s operations could normalize within two months of a decision to restart the complex.
Shin said although economic issues have not been included in the summit’s agenda, he would like to be optimistic about the effect the meeting could have on the complex's future.
He revealed that key representatives of South Korean firms that had operations in the complex will soon request the government to allow them to visit the North to inspect facilities.
The South Korean firms had made requests to make such visits on three occasions during the previous government and twice during the incumbent government, none of which were accepted.
