Seoul Welcomes Pompeo’s Inauguration as U.S. State Secretary
The Foreign Ministry has welcomed the inauguration of Mike Pompeo as U.S. secretary of state.
A ministry official said Friday that South Korea and the U.S. will continuously develop solid cooperation through close communication between their top diplomats. He added the two countries are making arrangements for Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Pompeo to hold telephone talks and meet at the earliest date possible.
Pompeo was sworn in as the 70th secretary of state on Thursday, following the Senate’s confirmation. The former Central Intelligence Agency director was tapped by President Donald Trump last month to replace Rex Tillerson.
