Leaders of 2 Koreas Attend Summit Dinner

A total of 62 officials from South and North Korea have attended a dinner wrapping up Friday’s inter-Korean summit, including President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and their wives.

South Korean presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom announced the list of dinner attendees during a briefing at the main press center in Goyang City on Friday afternoon.

South Korean First Lady Kim Jung-sook hosted the banquet held on the third floor of the Peace House on the southern side of the truce village of Panmunjeom, which included Kim, his wife Ri Sol-ju, and his sister Kim Yo-jong.

Other North Korean participants at the dinner included the North’s nominal head of state Kim Yong-nam, Kim Yong-chol, a vice chairman of the North’s ruling Workers' Party's Central Committee, and Hyon Song-wol, the head of North Korea's Samjiyon Orchestra.

Three of the nine North Korean officials who accompanied Kim during the summit returned to the North without attending the dinner, including Ri Myong-su, chief of the General Staff of the North's Korean People's Army, the North’s Defense Minister Pak Yong-sik, and North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho.

The 34 other South Korean participants ranged from politicians and business leaders to presidential aides and artists.

Ruling Democratic Party(DP) Chairwoman Choo Mi-ae, DP floor leader Woo Won-shik and Representative Park Jie-won from the Party for Democracy and Peace were also present for the dinner alongside Culture Minister Do Jong-hwan, Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry(KCCI) Chairman Park Yong-maan, and Moon Chung-in, presidential special adviser on foreign affairs and national security.

Singers Cho Yong-pil and Yoon Do-hyun, who visited the North as members of a South Korean art troupe last month, were also there.

The banquet began with an ensemble of two string musical instruments, haegeum from the South and ongnyugeum from the North, in the hope they will overcome differences and create harmony between the two Koreas.

After the dinner, the two leaders and their wives met with artists who performed during the event, and attended a farewell cultural performance arranged for the North Korean delegation.
