Many Chinese Interested in Investing in N. Korea: Chinese Media

Many people in China are apparently already showing an interest in investing in North Korea amid the peaceful mood between the two Koreas.

The Global Times, a Chinese newspaper under the Communist Party's People's Daily, reported that expectations in China about investment in the North has been further boosted by the North's declaration during its ruling Workers’ Party’s event last week to focus efforts on building a strong socialist economy as well as its recent will on denuclearization.

The newspaper cited an online public survey in China that showed 35 percent of the polled picked Pyongyang as the number one real estate investment target in the North, followed by Nampo at 22 percent.

It added Chongjin and Rason were not recommended much as they are located in the North’s nuclear test site in Punggye-ri in North Hamgyong Province.

A Chinese expert explained to the media outlet that the North holds ample mineral resources and China can also participate in infrastructure projects in the North, involving those dealing with ports, roads, and bridges.

He also said the two countries can cooperate not only in traditional industries but also trade and investment.
