Moon Conveys Kim's Position that N. Korea is Ready to Talk to Japan

President Moon Jae-in has reportedly conveyed North Korea's position to Japan that Pyongyang is ready to talk to Japan any time.

Presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said on Sunday during a press briefing that President Moon conveyed North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's intent for dialogue with Japan during his telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Sunday.

Moon reportedly told Abe that during his Friday summit with Kim, he conveyed Abe's wishes to hold talks with North Korea and to normalize diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The North Korean leader reportedly responded that his country is ready to talk to Japan any time.

Moon and Abe had telephone talks for 45 minutes from 10 a.m. Sunday to discuss the result of the inter-Korean summit held Friday at the border truce village of Panmunjeom.

Abe praised that the two Korean leaders affirmed a shared goal of complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in the summit.

Calling the Friday talks as a forward-looking move, Abe hoped that North Korea will take concrete actions toward denuclearization.
