Pompeo Sees 'Real Opportunity' for Nuclear Deal with N. Korea

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says there is a "real opportunity" for President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to reach a deal on denuclearization when they meet.

Pompeo made the remarks in an interview with ABC News on Sunday, saying he had a "good conversation" with Kim during his secret visit to Pyongyang earlier this month, when he was the director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

The U.S. top diplomat said he had an in-depth discussion with Kim on complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization, describing Kim as "prepared" to lay out a map that would help achieve that objective.

Pompeo said he had an extensive conversation with Kim on the hardest issues facing the two countries, adding his goal was to try and identify if there was a real opportunity to reach a deal on denuclearization and he believes there is.
