Trade Ministry Begins to Prepare for Economic Cooperation with N. Korea

South Korea's New Northern Policy initiative is expected to see changes as the inter-Korean summit declaration has raised the possibility of economic cooperation with North Korea.
Seoul's Trade Ministry in charge of the initiative has begun internal preparations for an era of full-fledged cross-border economic cooperation.
Trade Minister Kim Hyun-chong held a staff meeting on Monday and discussed key trade issues.
Discussions also involved organizational matters and division of roles within the ministry in preparation for economic exchanges with North Korea.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will for now continue to operate its existing team on inter-Korean cooperation as projects can't be carried out immediately under global sanctions on Pyongyang.
The team has begun to review projects agreed to at the time of the 2007 inter-Korean summit.
