Moon Says He Wants Peace, not Nobel Peace Prize

President Moon Jae-in says he wants peace on the Korean Peninsula, not a Nobel Peace Prize.

According to a presidential official, Moon made the remark during a meeting with his senior secretaries on Monday after he received word that former First Lady Lee Hee-ho sent him a message congratulating him on a successful inter-Korean summit.

The widow of former President Kim Dae-jung, who received a Nobel Peace Prize for the first inter-Korean summit in 2000, praised Moon for producing good results from Friday’s summit and wished him to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

According to the official, Moon said he is only interested in bringing in peace, and suggested instead that the award be given to U.S. President Donald Trump.

It is the first time Moon spoke about the Nobel Peace Prize amid speculation that he, Trump, or North Korean leader Kim Jong-un may receive the prestigious honor for their efforts on North Korea's denuclearization.
