Pompeo, Kono Agree to Maintain Maximum Pressure on N. Korea

U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono have agreed to maintain pressure on North Korea until the regime abandons its nuclear program.
Pompeo met with Kono in Jordan’s capital Amman on Monday during his first visit to the Middle East since taking office on Friday.
It was known that the two officials reached the consensus that Washington and Tokyo will keep with their maximum pressure campaign until denuclearization occurs. They also confirmed their will to continue coordination over North Korean issues.
Pompeo, who met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during a secret visit to the North early this month as U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, also reportedly explained to Kono North Korea’s stance on the issue of Japanese nationals abducted by the North in the 1970s and 80s.
