The leaders of South and North Korea have formed a general consensus on establishing three permanent facilities for reunions of families separated during the Korean War.
A senior official in Seoul told KBS that during the Friday summit, the two leaders shared an understanding on the need to seek a more fundamental solution to the issue rather than conventional reunions involving just three hundred people at a time.
As possible locations for the permanent facilities, Gaeseong City, the Mount Geumgang area in North Korea and Cheorwon in Gangwon Province are being considered.
The two Koreas are said to be pushing for the plan to follow up on the Panmunjeom Declaration issued after the historic inter-Korean summit last week.
In the declaration, South and North Korea agreed to endeavor to swiftly resolve the humanitarian issues that resulted from the division of the nation, and to convene the Inter-Korean Red Cross Meeting to discuss and solve various issues including the reunion of separated families.
