US Looking into Reports on Relocation of 3 American Detainees in N. Korea

The U.S. is reportedly seeking to confirm South Korean media reports that three Americans detained in North Korea may have been moved to a hotel ahead of a planned summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Quoting a U.S. official, Reuters reported on Wednesday that the U.S. government is looking into the reports that three Americans detained in North Korea have been relocated from a labor camp to a hotel near Pyongyang.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that there was no immediate confirmation of any change in the detainees’ status.

South Korean media on Wednesday quoted activist Choi Soung-ryong, who has contacts in the North, as claiming that the three detainees -- Kim Hak-song, Kim Sang-duk and Kim Dong-chul -- were moved in early April following instructions from superior authorities, citing residents in Pyongyang.

Choi reportedly said that the three detainees are being kept separately, but were "going on tours, receiving medical treatment and eating good food."
